The Next Generation!!!!!

Okay. The new generation of video game consoles is here. Now, the question still remains, how will each console do?

Let's take a look at each one.

The Wii -

Our personal favorite. It has the most innovative controls, the lowest price, and looks to have the greatest potential. Some of its pros are that it lets you buy (for a very low price) old video games from other systems, including the NES, SNES, N64, TurboGrafx-16, and the Genesis. Also, it has the coolest controller: you simply point, wave, shake, spin, and slash with it! Sports games, such as the included Wii Sports, feel amazing; you simply swing the remote like a bat, golf club, tennis racket, etc.  The Wii is great if you have friends or family over who want to play; it makes the best party machine.
The other game that we have been able to play on it, Zelda:Twilight Princess, is also amazing. You slash the remote like a sword, aim your bow with the remote, and even cast a fishing rod! The game is wonderful, and has provided us with many hours of fun.
Now, we shall discuss some of the negatives of the Wii. The graphics, while nothing to complain about, are nothing compared to what the ps3 and the xbox 360 can crank out. Also, hardcore gamers may feel left out by Nintendo's campaign to attract casual and non-gamers with milder games such as Wii Sports. Also, third party support may be limited, since it would seem to be harder to develop for the Wii than for the other two.
We predict that the wii will be popular, and may outsell the PS3, but will be handicapped by how unique and different it is. However, it has the potential for some truly amazing and innovative games, and should play a major part in this generation.

Xbox 360 -

This  one has been out for a the longest amount of time, and has sold a considerable number more units than the other two. It offers great graphics, and some great games such as Gears of War, Halo 2, and many more. We have been able to play this, and think that it is probably the middle of the road for most gamers. Its price, while higher than the Wii, is much lower than the PS3's, and it offers decent performance for a console that was first on the market for its generation. It doesn't have many drastic pros or cons like the Wii does, and seems to be fairly well-balanced. The Xbox Live online service offers online play against other people, as well as download and purchase of different content and upgrades.
We predict that the Xbox 360, while not as popular as a holiday gift as the other two, will turn out ahead by the end of this generation. It offers new and hardcore gamers alike a fun experience, and has the support of many third-party games companies.

PS3 -

Whew, this one is expensive. And we mean REALLY expensive. Is it just us, or is $600.00 too much to ask for a console? Plus the $60.00 games! You could buy a Wii and a few games for it, as well as extra controllers for the price of one PS3! However, once you consider that the PS3, which plays Blu-ray discs, is much cheaper than any other Blu-ray player on the market, the price seems a little more justified. But then again, is having Blu-Ray technology really worth it?
Anyway, the PS3, released two days before the Wii, had a VERY low number of units for release. These suckers were selling for over $1,000.00 online! However, they prices have dropped, and it is a little easier to find one now, but still freakishly impossible. As such, we at RabidCentipede.com have not been able to obtain one, since Sony apparently only makes like two of these things a year.
We can offer our predictions though. The PS3, a very hot holiday item, will probably only be popular among the hardcore gamers who will pay that much money to get a latest-generation machine. It is supposed to offer mind-blowing graphics, assuming you have one of those TVs that displays pictures better than they look in real life. We think that since it isn't really worth it to get one unless you are either freakishly rich, or are an extreme Sony fanboi, that the PS3 won't do to well sales-wise, since you can't sell that many units if you hardly make any.

And now, for a bit of summative reflection. The Wii offers the most innovation for the lowest price, the Xbox 360 offers a nice middle-of-the-road approach for the normal gamer, and the PS3 is about as economical as a mansion made of solid gold. While each will sell to their own target audience, the Wii will probably have the most influence on future generations. I mean, after a while, you have to have some kind of controller besides the ones we have now. If all consoles followed the path of the PS3, in 30 years we will still be using analog sticks and tons of buttons, instead of moving closer to virtual reality, which would be so much cooler.
